Apparently we were still doing the role play

Hotel interview. Manager says pretend I’m a guest and my room isn’t ready. Fine, I’ve worked reception for 6 years. Apologized. Offered to store his bags. Not good enough. Drink at the bar? Doesn’t drink. Complimentary lunch? Already eaten. I offer an upgrade and now he wants to know why he wasn’t in that room to begin with.

This goes on for fucking ages. Every solution creates another problem. I’ve given him late checkout, breakfast, a car to the airport. I don’t even know if this hotel has a car. At this point I’m driving him myself.

Then he says his wife is still unhappy. I said we could put her in a seperate room.

He puts his pen down. Asks why I think his wife would want a separate room.

I said she might appreciate some space.

“From what?”

“From you.”

I knew it was the wrong answer for the interview. Still thought it was a decent offer for the wife.
