They Put It Down as Judgment

I arrived early for a security analyst interview and got into the building behind an employee. Told him I’d forgotten my badge. He held the door. At reception I explained that I’d identified a weakness in their access controls. I thought it would be useful to start the interview with an actual finding.

The receptionist asked who let me in. I said I wasn’t trying to get anyone in trouble. She asked me to sit down. The guy came back with building security. Turned out he was interviewing me. Said he’d specifically asked whether I worked there and I’d said yes.

I said yeah, but that was the point. He’d just believed me.

He asked why I hadn’t used the visitor entrance. I said that wouldn’t have demonstrated anything. Then he asked whether anyone had authorized me to test their security. I said no, this was more an example of how I approach problems independently.

Interview lasted about 8 minutes. He walked me out through the visitor entrance and waited until the door closed behind me.

I mentioned in the follow-up email that he’d clearly taken the finding seriously. Haven’t heard back.
