Notes were accurate

Got fired because the note taker joined my interview at another company. I’d been taking recruiter calls from a little room in our office because my apartment had 3 roommates. Used my work calendar to reserve the room, put the interview link in the location field, didn’t think about it again. The bot joined and the recruiter asked if I was okay with recording. I thought it was hers. Said absolutely, big believer in transparency.

Interview went well. I explained that I’d outgrown the role, that leadership struggled to make decisions, that I was effectively managing the team already. Some of this was true. Some of it was stuff my girlfriend had said when I complained about work and I’d decided to use it professionally. Anyway the bot emailed the summary to my manager because he owned the workspace. Not just a transcript. A really useful breakdown. Reasons for leaving. Compensation expectations. Concerns about current management. My manager called me into that same little room the next morning and had it open on his laptop. He wasn’t even at the leaving part yet. He wanted to know which 8 people I managed.

I said I meant cross-functional collaboration. He turned the screen around. I had apparently said “8 direct reports” twice, once in response to a follow-up question specifically about whether they reported directly to me. HR was not happy. Best news is I got fired and didn't get the role.
