Only Bid
We had this charity auction at work where senior people donated “experiences.” Golf, lunch, whatever. My boss donated a Saturday working alongside him. Actual wording was “A Day in the Life of a Founder.” I already did 6 of those a week
Nobody bid. It was getting uncomfortable because he kept walking past the table. his assistant asked me to put something down so he wouldn’t be the only blank sheet. Said she’d expense it. So I wrote 50 and went back to the bar.
Won.
Monday he asked which Saturday worked for me. I said I thought it was more of a symbolic thing. He said the charity was real. Fair enough. I asked whether we’d be doing anything different from my regular job. He said I’d get access to how he thought
put it online for 50 OBO. Used the photo and description from the auction because I wasn’t trying to misrepresent the product. A guy offered 15 and asked if parking was included. We were emailing about that when my boss found it.
The meeting was mostly about the listing title, Saturday With Founder - Please Read Before Messaging. description was something like, don’t worry no need to prepare, its basically an 8 hour ted talk and he’ll explain your own industry to you once he finds out what you do. Also, he’ll ask you if you want anything for lunch. This is him taking your order, not offering to pay
He asked whether I understood how humiliating it was to see this. i said it wasn’t a big deal, there hadn’t been much interest. That was the part HR focused on in the exit interview
